Just got back from a trip out to the power station. Guess it's obvious now why the spirits wanted us to go.

First off, we found some of the batteries that go in the buildings downtown. Not sure we've got all of them, some of those places are still pretty boarded up, but we grabbed everything we saw. Twelve total. Couldn't have carried them out without Stone's help, so give him your thanks.

Law and I found the control room of the place, too. We didn't get a lot of opportunity to look around, but we found the journal of someone who was stationed there at the end, as things started going dark. I guess he was one of the last ones alive to oversee the bombs they shot at that World Eater, and he thought it worked. If that's true, then either there was more than one at the time and they didn't know it, or ours showed up later.

But it says he knew they were firing the bombs from a silo up in the mountains somewhere. I'm willing to go hike out there and have a look if a few people want to join, but we'll need supplies. It sounds like it might be pretty far.

Maybe the plutonium comes first, though. And maybe Weaver's little flying robots are enough anyway without risking a trip to the mountains. We saw another green-eye near the power station, and that seven-eyed one is still out there somewhere. I'm open to ideas.

Good...day, my fellow citizens. If it is day, who knows anymore?

According to the Librarian's report, we are running out of time, but there are several things happening on multiple fronts which give me hope that it is not entirely impossible to handle this World Eater which is on its way. Allow me to report what I know, and then we may discuss what we can do to hasten our various tasks and come together in order to succeed.

First, Weaver would like our collective assistance cleaning the Helix Station so that she may return to live in it. It is...a daunting task, if one is not yet accustomed to the level of violence and gore that seems to be commonplace here. A number of people died there, and while their remains are not an issue, there is still a fair amount of evidence of the violence that must be safely cleaned up. If anyone would like to put together a group to do so, I would appreciate it and so would Weaver - so much so that she has agreed to find us the information we would need to learn how to reverse the portal and potentially send the World Eater through it. Time is extremely of the essence, there. But, seeing as it is winter, or very nearly so, some may appreciate time in a warm, indoor station that is as safe as any, even if the bargain means washing and cleaning.

What we learned while down there was considerable, and Doctor Trafalgar has a sample of World Eater [ahem] viscera on which to experiment. We know that there may be one limited means of fighting the green-eyed spirits, using a potion, but work will need to be done to verify and then manufacture it. Pluto and her people were working on ways to fight back against them as well as the World Eaters, and while most of that was a bit over my own head, I expect the doctors - medical and technological both - have all of that information and can share it with any who can help them work on other routes of defense and attack. There is also more information out there to be retrieved, it seems.

We also learned more about the bomb that was used, and I would like to remind my fellow living dead that I have the location of a bunker containing an important mineral component of it. I should like to undertake an expedition to retrieve it once the proper containment protocols can be arranged. I defer to Doctor Ingram on that front, but I will be going along to guide and to fight if needed.

Now, with all of that said... [deep breath. Yeah, he talks a lot and this time is no different]

...the Librarian's message also suggested that some of the green-eyes are amenable to talking with us, perhaps we can arrange a truce or at least a mutual cease-fire. It seems there is a massive and dangerous 'boss' spirit, the Seven-Eyes, which will not listen to reason, and I will echo the plea: do take care, and do not go out alone. Not even to search for lanterns. There are a dwindling number of us left, and if too many take foolhardy risks, we may not be able to repair their lanterns. Any and all efforts of ours to stop the World Eaters and look ahead to a peaceful afterlife will end permanently if we lose the ones capable of repairing lanterns and working the portal. Of course, I do not plan to strike diplomacy with this creature, but if the Librarian is correct, there are others, and I want to speak with them. Sooner rather than later.

Winter is coming, and there is no knowing how harsh it may be. Our efforts to explore and travel may be severely hindered. I suggest we plan to move as quickly as we can to secure all of our advantages. I would propose one more thing...the Bonfire. It does serve as our light and heat but it is also what draws the World Eater here. I would like to hear any suggestions of how to best spread out the torches, move them so that they do not act as a beacon of their own. We need the light, but we also need to protect ourselves.

Thank you for listening. Please, tell me what you think.

To my fellow Beacon residents,

I hope that everyone has returned safely from the mines, and that the nightmares that spread across town have stopped.

While I have been here for a few months now, I am afraid that I am still under-equipped to survive here. I do not have much experience fighting, or with weapons. But I would like to correct that. I do not have many skills that I could trade lessons for, but if you would be willing to teach me, please let me know. I live on the third floor of the Invincible, or you can contact me here.

I would also like to ask if anyone knows some very simple recipes. This is my first time having access to any kind of kitchen.

Thank you,
39 Hope

[he opens with a deep sigh, tired and slightly pained]

My fellow citizens of Beacon...

The recent visits by spirits appear to have been fruitful, in the sense that some of us have learned new things about this world and the past. If you have something valuable to share, I encourage you to speak up. I am less concerned about network security these days so we need not purposefully meet in person. I should like to know what you all know, and in turn, I have some disturbing news of my own.

The spirit who met me...I believe, strongly, was actually one of my own people, from my world. A foe, in the past, whose death impacted me personally. I have no evidence aside from the sensations of his thoughts, which in the dream state is hard to be sure is real, but my experience is difficult to interpret any other way. This means that the spirits are not just the former residents of Beacon from before the darkness, they are also...us. Our own. Others like us who were brought here upon death and forced to try to rectify the situation before it's too late. It is very likely that in time, we too will become masked spirits.

Hence, 'what is death to a dead thing?' Their deaths brought them here, and the world turned them into what we see.

[a long pause. Not because the rest is difficult but because that's such a heavy thought and he's not managing it well]

Additionally, through his memory of still being human, I have discovered the location of some sort of bunker, a storage space hidden behind a thick metal door. The 'plutonium' that the Night Market wanted so badly is apparently kept there. If the Wild Hunt is no longer a threat, it may be safe to mount an expedition to recover it, I have the location written down as I remember it being given to my mind. However, I think the more urgent and prudent expedition should be to Helix Station, if Weaver would be so kind as to transport us. I will have plans made to leave within two days of now. Do let me know if you wish to join me, I have already spoken to some but would like to settle it.

Please, share with me what you have all learned.

Soldat, Law and myself just got back from trying to find some sign of the Wild Hunt. Ran into a few roadblocks and thought we'd come back, go over what we found, see if anyone here has ideas.

We did find a building full of spirits. A train station I guess, with a train in it but it doesn't look like it's going anywhere any time soon. The rails kept going into a tunnel but it was closed off with locks we couldn't get through or even break, and another branch had some little hand cart that needs wheels to get going. If anyone knows a thing or two about locks, or has ideas for that cart, we're all ears. Might go dig through the scrap yard later.

We also found a notebook. We're all in it. Looks like it dates back decades at least, with detailed notes on everyone who's ever been in Beacon. I've got it at Solis' lab for now so we can compare it to her lantern notes but if anyone wants a look through, feel free. It was inside the train for some reason and it's been written in by lots of different people but I don't know anything else about where it came from or why it exists.

I'd like to go back out eventually. I feel like if those people were still around we'd have heard from them by now but I hate the idea of abandoning them to whatever fate found them before we did. We could use a few more eyes on the ground.

Then again maybe we have bigger priorities. Anyone been back down to the Helix Station with Weaver yet?

Got in touch with Helix Station. Got more intel on the threat but lost contact. Only spoke via Morse. Here is what they told us:

NO VOICE. OVER. THEY CAN HEAR. OVER. STATUS BAD. OVER.

DR HAD CODES. FIND LAB. IDK. MANY GONE. LAST MESSAGE SENT WEEKS AGO. PLEASE HELP. SCARED. OVER.

ONE OF THEM. NOT FULL GROWN. CONSUMES ANYTHING CLOSE. TRIED TO SEND BACK THROUGH PORTAL, TRAPPED OPEN. MORE CAME. GREEN EYES. OTHERS TOO. WILL KILL ON SIGHT. NO POWER. MUST CONSERVE. PLEASE COME SOON. IN RD. CAN HELP. PLEASE HELP ME. OVER.

It isn't a lot more intel but it's still some and proof that someone is still alive. I promised them we would send help. We will have to be prepared for green-eyes as well.

Also we helped the spirit at the radio tower. I think they were just afraid of you before.

I come bearing some unpleasant news, which Commander Rosinante, Grandmaster Kuai Liang, and I discovered within the last day. Before I begin, if there is anyone with better medical training or healing abilities who can help the two of them, it would be much appreciated. We encountered a violent spirit who did quite a lot of damage.

That said, we went to look into a strange phenomenon the Grandmaster found while looking for torches, and ended up at what they have said is the 'radio tower.' I believe this is where the modern sorts managed their communications, Daylight explained some of it to me some time ago. There are many smaller details which any of us can relate to you but I take to the network to report some incredibly dire news, and to ask if anyone can recognize or translate part of a message.

[it takes some rather obvious fumbling to get the tablet to play a pre-recorded message while sending this one, pity his awkwardness, but then this message begins to play clearly. Kuai got a good recording of it to share.]

I confess I had thought that the reason the Night Market did not visit earlier this month was much more mundane. Flood damage, perhaps, or a loss of communication with Master Rastus. This...is far worse. I do not know the timing of the message, when it was first sent, but the fact that nothing has come up from the bottom of the lake to destroy us yet...well, I don't think I can say what that means.

There is also this, if anyone is capable of translating...

[a shorter recording, now that he's got the hang of it. Morse code if anyone has the chops to tackle it!]

I do not know if we have the resources to actually mount a rescue or do anything about it, but I feel our last remaining chances at survival may slip away if we do nothing at all. World Eater aside, it may be that the portal itself and our ability to resupply will be cut off if we cannot reach them at all. Your thoughts?

( hey there, beacon bits! There are some intrepid adventurers here to discuss some discoveries, and … well, it’s a bit of a good news, bad news situation…

Let’s start with the good news, huh? Matt will start them off. )

A group of us went to explore the tunnels, and we successfully made it into the lab. If you try the code 071969, you should be able to get in yourself. We only explored the fork to the left, there might be still more to discover down there. Possibly another entrance, hard to say.

( with that, the device is handed off to Minimus. )

We have found several documents and machinery within, including the equipment Dr. Solis used to fix lanterns. Having tested it briefly, it also scans it for basic information on our well-being. There are a collection of her notes on her computer, though they will take a longer visit to fully review. Unfortunately, the doctor herself was nowhere to be seen.

( Minimus holds it steady as he passes it to Kuai. )

It’s worth noting that something, or someone, was aware of the labs location before we arrived. There’s footsteps in the woods that lead to and away from it, as if someone was attempting to peer through the windows. It was difficult to tell from the footprints if it’s human or a spirit, but either way if you’re out there remain vigilant. It would be wise to draw as little attention to it as possible.

The remains of the Doctor’s lantern are by the machine. I fear it’s too late to try and revive her - but maybe someone who understands her notes better will have success.

( last words fall to Matt. )

If you want to check it out yourself, either of the three of us can help you there. And any questions, we can try to answer… but a lot of it might require explorations of your own.

( ooc: expect answers from any of the three fellas! )

Soooooooo, funny story... I'm alive. 😬 And I got my tablet working again, so that's pretty cool!!

I know everyone's gonna ask what the heck happened, but honest answer? No idea. I remember the ground started to feel kinda funny during the storm, and I was trying to get out of the lighthouse cos the spirits were freaking out? But like, idk, I guess I like hit my head or something??? I woke up in the woods with the WOOOOOOORST headache and a bunch of spirits and none of my crap to get in touch with anyone. >:[

Anyway, you guys have probably noticed by now that the lighthouse collapsed. :/ That super sucks for like a thousand reasons. I dunno what we're gonna do about that, but as far as *I'm* concerned, I got my old lantern back and I fixed up my tablet. So the good news is I'm not stuck in the lighthouse anymore, buuuuut the bad news for you guys is that I don't have access to any of the equipment or records I was using to help out. I'm just a normie again!!!

All in all I feel like this development is probably like super duper bad since I can't get in touch with Dr. Solis OR Rastus OR Pluto and all our useful crap is out of commission, but...... We'll figure it out, right? I'm gonna try to stay hopeful??

But uhh so that's the status update on me! What's been up with you guys?

Hello? I just got into the Graveyard. The front gate's unlocked. It's not dangerous from what I've seen so far, and the graves are pretty neat to look at. I think the spirits are coming here with offerings. Can't say if that's true, but it's not entirely abandoned.

Oh, and I found a keypad on one of the tombs! There's something written on the tomb, but I don't know what language it's in. It could be a hint?

Greetings.

I'm sure we've all seen Clara's post. Without Doctor Solis no one can be revived, making death permanent and meaning we all must exercise additional caution around our lanterns. It's critical we get to the lab and retrieve the notes that the Doctor left, then perhaps we can bring back those who have fallen or understand more about the portal that was used to bring us here.

I have a vague idea of where the lab is, but it's several hours out and I don't want to have a group of us wander aimlessly looking for it. Does anyone here have a better idea of how to pinpoint it? There's an image of stars taken from the doorway of the lab if anyone knows how we could use such a thing to navigate.

Fjord, could the tunnels you found possibly connect to the lab? Do you know which way they were leading?

[Hey guys, it's the familiar voice of Jason Grace. He sounds...tired, but not hopeless. In fact he sounds pretty motivated.]

I don't know if any of you remember this, but shortly after I arrived -- gods, almost a year ago now I think-- Rastus put together a memorial for those we had lost in an effort to get to the Lighthouse. Given the number of people reported as dead on the weekly bulletin, I think it might be time to do something similar. I know we may have a lot of other things to do in terms of ensuring our own survival, but it doesn't feel right to me to just let this go by without some kind of recognition, some time to mourn who and what we've lost...that's important too.

We don't have a way of making the glowing rocks like Rastus did, but I got pretty good at crafting the paper boats and the paper lanterns can't be that hard either.

[There's a long silence, Jason clears his throat.]

On a related note, like most of you, I’ve been working on cleaning up the debris left by the floods and I noticed that the Wall for the Remembered at Town Hall has been pretty badly damaged. Would it make sense to move the items that remain to the Church -- maybe get started on putting together a new one? The Church is still in one piece -- though I’m not sure if it has the wall space. The only other location I can think of that might be appropriate would be a wall at the school, since I don’t think it’s being used for much else.

[Something seems to click as he realizes these two things can be combined, he muses.]

It probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to combine the two -- release the boats and then collectively meet at the new Wall for the Remembered to deposit the old photographs with new memorial items as well.

We just need to figure out where that will be...I'm open to other suggestions of course. I'd like to get this done in the next few days, so just let me know, okay?

[There's silence for a few moments, as Fjord collects himself. When he does talk, he sounds... tense, and upset, but it's wrapped up tight in a calm facade.]

During the flood, I accidentally discovered an underground tunnel that connects to the church - some sort of mineshaft, almost. I went back after the waters went back down, the other day, and I found a torch down there too, with...

[With Mollymauk's horn. He clears his throat, and continues.]

And, uh... with Soldat earlier today, we went explorin' it properly. Turns out that it connects to that trapdoor in the floor - there's some kind of fancy lock on the underside that we didn't try messing with. Followed it the other way too - about fifteen minutes of walking took us to an intersection, and about the same again took us to this big, steel door. Looks like it was supposed to be locked, but the storm fucked it up enough that we could get inside.

[There's silence, and a quiet, but audible, tremble to his deep breath.]

...well. You could almost call it a catacomb, really, there were. [Another, briefer, pause, and a faint tremor that comes out as an almost amused bounce to his voice.] Actual, uh. Dead bodies in it. There were. Five of them, all up. Covered in mushrooms and decayed as fuck, I don't-- I got no idea how long they might've been down there.

[And another pause, the longest yet.]

Kal-El, Alisaie, and... Mollymauk. I didn't see... there wasn't anything to identify the other two bodies.

[There's a light clatter, identifiable as him putting the tablet down on a hard surface. Another audible breath. And he continues a bit more calmly.]

After that we doubled back, got to the intersection and tried the second path. Not sure how long we were on it for, but given how steep it was, seems like we must've gone under the river - sure sounded like it. That took us to this big twisting tunnel going up. Not sure which direction we were pointin' by the end of it but there was another trapdoor at the top, locked again. Didn't look like there was anywhere else to go besides one a' those trapdoors or- or the door on the other side of that catacomb.

So if anyone wants to go tryin' one a' those locks to see what's on the other side, give us a shout if you get it open, yeah?

[he sounds tired. They probably all do, after all of that.]

My friends...

I'm sure I don't need to state the obvious, but we are just now seeing the full extent of this disaster. If you have not yet looked to see the bluff where the lighthouse used to be, take a moment and behold. This is hardly the first time the ferry hasn't come, but everything else....well. It is a tragedy on all sides.

First, I would like those who can to check in. Who is still here, and are you all alright? Now that we have a moment to breathe, report in if you can. We must take stock of who is genuinely missing, versus those who are just too busy to use the Grandmaster's alert system.

Second, can we have reports on what is destroyed and what still stands? I have spent my energy moving torches and redirecting water around the Bonfire. It is mostly safe, as far as I can tell, but Master Rastus is missing entirely. What of the village and the downtown on the other sides of the river? How do they fare? Has anyone been able to reach the Keeper, Dr. Solis, or anyone else with the network?

[a pause, a deep breath. Rosinante, buddy, this is on you]

Now is the time we need leadership, more than any other. We can discuss and debate the options later but for the moment, I would like for all of you to trust me and allow me to take charge. Temporarily, if nothing else. I have led my kingdom through war and disaster on a similar level before, I will do everything in my power to lead us out of this and to recovery and reorder, swiftly and carefully. I have been asked by some to step up, and so I shall. If you will let me. If there are no objections, simply ask me for a direction and I will point you toward a need that your skills can meet. What we need first is to take stock of what we have and what is missing: people, supplies, and shelter. From there, we will move forward one step at a time.

If you will not have me, then feel free to say so and I will not waste my time. Meanwhile, I will be moving torches back to the Bonfire Square until I drop from fatigue.

Greetings.

This is unfortunately coming far too late for the most recent events, but I hope it is of some use in the future. I commissioned a new application from the Night Market for the tablets and I'm attaching it here. The function is simple, you can push a button in an emergency to call for aid, or to notify the network that you're safe if you're in a situation where others may be concerned about your well-being.

If you don't wish to download it from the network I also have it on an SD card for distribution.

((OOC: This app will be available to anyone and will be on the tablet page once I do a little write up. It's called Safe or Not and the basics are:
Type 9-1-1 to broadcast an emergency alert tied to your character's username. They can't add anything else like location or a message but it'll send a mass broadcast that they're in danger.
Type 5-1-1 to auto-upload an 'I'm OK'.

Feel free to use this going forward and your character doesn't have to respond to get the app, they can simply download it and start spamming I'M OKAY to everyone.

[There is the background noise of the wind at the window -- the blizzard may be on its final legs, but its still cold as hell and the wind is distinctive. When Jason starts though it's easy enough to hear him, he sounds better than he did a month ago when he was recovering from injuries, someone is ready to get back into things.]

Hello everyone. I don’t use this network very often, but since the blizzard has made it kind of difficult to meet in person I thought I would put it to use.

[There's a pause. He knows it displays usernames, but he knows also that he hasn't used it to broadcast like this before.]

This is Jason Grace. I have noticed that several of us have been doing a kind of unofficial patrol of the area. I think when our area of living was smaller that was one thing, but we’ve now opened up into a whole new place to live and that means we are spreading out, it’s getting harder to keep tabs on everyone...to keep us together.

[Safe. He wants to say safe, but that sounds utterly ridiculous in a place like this. Still there is such a thing as 'safer' he supposes. He moves on.]

Back at Camp Jupiter, each cohort was responsible for different tasks around camp. Usually there was a rotation of sorts, though those of us in the Fifth got stuck with cleaning the Baths or taking care of the basilisk infestation more often than the others. Still, it was a good system because it helped keep us organized and accountable to each other.

[Of course, there had been other assignments, quests and war games and always busy. He wishes he could implement more of that here, but he has to remind himself he isn't dealing with his usual demigods -- Roman, Greek, or otherwise. These are (mostly) regular people who, while many are fighters in their own right, don't seem to necessarily live for the idea of cooperation.]

I’m not suggesting we need to start a chore wheel or anything, but one of those duties was a regular, scheduled patrol of the perimeter and entryways into Camp Jupiter and New Rome as a whole.

I think if different people are out on patrol anyway, it makes sense to coordinate our efforts and use the numbers to our advantage. We don’t have to patrol solo and we can certainly make sure that our timing is spaced out more. It was even suggested to me that we could stagger the patrols, so that different people can be in different areas. Whatever we do, I think it’s important that we stay coordinated. It works out better that way.

I’ve got a spare notebook that I can take my drawing out of and we can use as a Patrol Roster instead for the time being. I’ve got some other ideas, but I’ll need materials from Rastus first. For now, I’ll put it down in the same place as the Log Book if anyone wants to contribute.

[There's some shuffling of paper and the sound of someone moving. Jason is apparently doing this RIGHT NOW. Was that everything? He thinks so.]

Thanks for hearing me out. I'll see you around soon.
