Greetings.

This is unfortunately coming far too late for the most recent events, but I hope it is of some use in the future. I commissioned a new application from the Night Market for the tablets and I'm attaching it here. The function is simple, you can push a button in an emergency to call for aid, or to notify the network that you're safe if you're in a situation where others may be concerned about your well-being.

If you don't wish to download it from the network I also have it on an SD card for distribution.

((OOC: This app will be available to anyone and will be on the tablet page once I do a little write up. It's called Safe or Not and the basics are:
Type 9-1-1 to broadcast an emergency alert tied to your character's username. They can't add anything else like location or a message but it'll send a mass broadcast that they're in danger.
Type 5-1-1 to auto-upload an 'I'm OK'.

Feel free to use this going forward and your character doesn't have to respond to get the app, they can simply download it and start spamming I'M OKAY to everyone.))

Thank you for this, Sir Liang! The app can be a really useful thing to have for when there's a need to explore places or split-up or something like that.

That was my intent. To assist with scouting missions where communication may be fraught.

I do fear that we'll be inundated with false alarms in the next few days from those who don't know how it works or believe it to be funny to alert others. But hopefully that passes quickly.

Hopefully. This is a really good thing to have in light of stuff. People using it for chuckles isn't cool.

Is there a way to discourage that in the programming of the app in future updates and stuff? Like it checks your vitals or something to see if there's anything funny going on with you?

The vendor I purchased from did not have enough time to do anything quite so complex. Perhaps if he returns next time I can have adjustments done.

Or if you know anyone particularly adept at editing and creating such applications?

I'm not sure how it would check your vitals to begin with unless there was a piece of the tablet implanted inside us to monitor us, and that could likely be hacked and used for nefarious purposes.

What is it actually for and why is everyone on it all the time?

it's something called social media and it's basically a means of keeping up to date with your friends and family.

do you want to know what your aunt you haven't seen in ten years had for dinner? facebook will tell you.

Why does anyone need to know what anyone ate for dinner?

I'm not sure I understand how people communicate anymore.

you know, i'm from a place where facebook is very prominent and i don't understand why people need to share all that. it's unnecessary so i couldn't really tell you the answer.

I had to train a bunch of teenagers who couldn't stay off it for more than fifteen minutes. I'm fairly certain they were all talking to each other while seated next to one another.

I'm glad no one has shown up here and started using the network in that way.

This is smart thinking. I will have to find some help to download it, but I certainly will.

( hopefully it has voice command controls... .. . . . though if it doesn't it is probably fine Matt is not big on asking for help. do as i say, not as i do, etc... )

My hope is people use it wisely and don't overutilize it to the point no one takes it seriously anymore.

[If Matt can dial the phone by voice then it should work. Kuai was sort of vague with what he wanted, but it's dialing based not a button push.]

You never know. I'd like to think better of people, but whenever I do I'm often proven wrong.

Hopefully our current circumstances are severe enough that people wouldn't mess around.
