@daylit; audio.
Hi! I’m Daylight. Um… I know a lot’s been happening and we’re all trying to figure out what we can do to help. It’s actually why I’m making this post now, honestly.
A few months back we had this scavenger hunt event. It was run by Ms. Robin- [ he falters here, the memory of her latest post still fresh in his processors.
he shakes his helm, grateful that no one can see him, and continues on: ] -and I got something for participating in it. It was a phrase from the forest spirits' language. The one where we use with the ocarinas and language app she also set up for us in our tablets.
A friend of mine- Riku, he's really nice - he said he also got one. So did someone else after the event. So I’m thinking she must have given to everyone who participated in it and I'm hoping you guys, if you have it, can pass them along to me. I want to try and use the phrases we have to figure out more about their language. Make more phrases, find new words. Stuff like that. I want to talk to them. See if they can direct me to the green-eyed spirits.
[ you wanna what now day- ]
So if you guys got anything similar to this, you can let me know here or in my inbox or in person or whatever works best for you. I, um, will try to pay you guys if you want something in return.
Umm… Yeah… That's it, I guess. Thank you.

Someone else on the network implied that they were trying to kill us to tell us... whatever it is they were trying to communicate. [ It's a bold strategy, Cotton. ] But you're not going to talk to them alone, right?
no subject
[ praise the stars and then some- daylight does have some common sense rattling around the processors. ]
I was thinking of bringing someone with me when I go in and having someone else stay behind. I give the person who's still in Beacon an update message. Maybe every hour or so. That way they know we're still, you know, kicking and they have the information that we discover too. That way the others can be updated in real-time.
no subject
Oh, good. You're... not worried about them, I don't know, ripping you apart? I've got plenty of scars from them.
[ It is a bold strategy. ]
no subject
[ a few seconds will past before he responds again: ] I'm not gonna lie— I am.
[ he's been on the receiving end of it a few months back and he'd like to avoid that experience again. ]
But I'm even more scared of not doing my all to help you guys. Especially in the wake of what happened to you all. So if taking risks means we get closer to... something that can help us, I'll take the risks.
no subject
That's... very nice of you. You're good people, Daylight. Did you fall asleep or were you awake last month?
[ She can't say that she saw Daylight wandering around, but then again, things had gotten a little intense at times. And Ellever had taken fitful naps. ]
no subject
We were at a radio tower and it was- [ he pauses here, genuinely unsure of how to sum up his experiences without making it too gory or too underwhelming.
in the end, he thinks he'll go with something elle will understand given their time here in beacon: ] It was weird. Super weird. Even for my standards.
But! I got to see the colour yellow again. [ he cheers up after that- significantly so. ] That was nice!
no subject
Heh. Yeah. I bet it was. Sounds like everyone who was asleep had a bizarre time. [ Elle's just glad she was able to defend the... pile of dreamers that were at the Invincible. She never looked too hard at the pile. It was pretty frantic. ] ...can you not see yellow? ...sorry if that's a rude question...
no subject
[ daylight falls quiet, a little unsure if he wants to answer this or not, but he did bring this up and she is asking. it feels rude to not better explain himself for bringing up such a weird thing.
so, he takes a deep vent and says, ] I, um, passed away some months back. When I came back... I couldn't see the colour 'yellow' anymore. Just shades of grey in it place. Think it might be because we're already dead so... Dying, even more, is going to cause problems for us, I think.
no subject
[ Ellever's pause is thoughtful, as she tries to parse through that. Dying takes something away from you? That would make some sense. But it's disconcerting, all the same. ]
I'm sorry that happened to you. [ She's going to be saying this to people a lot, isn't she? ] I wonder what that says about all of us. If we're actually alive. [ Morbid thought, Elle, she thinks to herself. ] But I'm not surprised. Maybe it's like xeroxing something over and over again.
no subject
oh! he thinks he recalls it now- it was something uncle leeds referred to in the past, before everything went mostly digital. day recalled how happy uncles leeds was in no longer having to stand for hours in front of a scanner. ] That's where you try to make a copy of something directly, right? You put it on a, um, scanner and something, well, scans it and you have a copy of the thing? Exact details and everything?
no subject
no subject
[ daylight's memory of dust tumbles is hazy at best... but he thinks he remembers trying to leaf through a xerox'd copy of a copy once, bored and idle while waiting for someone(?) to pick him up. ]
They were always so... Eerie, at the end, I guess? Washed out and definitely not what it was supposed to be, copied to many times to the point it was kind of useless...
Ack! [ he shakes his helm, trying to shoo away those thoughts. ] I hope that's not what happens to us. Talk about morbid endings.
no subject
Yeah, let's try not to... get there. [ Not that some have been able to help it. ] Anyway, um, [ before she got things terribly off track, ] if you need help with this project of yours, just lemme know, okay? I'm kind of interested to... compile information on the spirits.
no subject
-You want to help out with this project of mine? Really? [ he sounds so excited. it's rather silly how happy. ] That'll be great.
[ and that'll be perfect timing for what day needs for his project/assignment/attempt/whatever this mission of his involving the spirits' langauge is, actually. because- ] There is something you can help me with. Only if you really want to, of course!
no subject
Yeah. Totally! [ Then again, if this were reversed, Ellever would probably be as happy that someone was taking an interest. ] I'm down for something constructive. Right now it feels like we're all just collecting information and it doesn't map anything yet. What do you need?
no subject
[ he's relieved to hear that elle is up for this. it'll definitely help him out in the coming months.
he begins to explain what he needs and why he needs it: ] This is going to sound weird, I know, but I need help in knowing how many musical instruments we have available in Beacon and what they are exactly.
The reason why is because the forest spirits' language is communicated primarily through the ocarinas we have in the general store. Some of the spirits may understand morse code but not all, so using the ocarina is still the go-to way to speak with them.
But! I was thinking of transcribing the notes-slash-words we have so far into other musical instruments. That way we, um, have more options to speak with them. [ he stops his breathless explanation, realising how much he's been going on and on and on. ] Oh- Whoops. Sorry about that. I babbled again, didn't I?
no subject
No, it's okay, I speak babble! [ She'd done it a lot back home when she was theorizing about the cryptids. ] So, you want to collect a diverse group of instruments and then figure out a translation with them? That seems smart. I can poke around the buildings in Beacon, and maybe put out a message to ask what people have?
no subject
it... it could be his winglets, possibly. excitedly flapping behind his back at the moment from both the compliment for his plans and the suggestion for her own plan. ]
Oh my gosh thank you so much if you can do that. That'll be great.

[ daylight perks up at the end, intrigued by what she said. ]
Do you want me to teach you? The spirit sounds, I mean. I know how to play the ocarina and got most of the phrases and notes down. [ he pauses, feeling a bit embarrassed. ] Um! Only if you want to, Elle. If you want to do this by yourself than I get it.
no subject
No, no, it'd be great if you could teach me. Then I can get faster into the whole... translation part. As long as you have the time.
[ Die and learn new skills. She can dig it. Probably. ]
no subject
he hums a bit, adding in a surprisingly thoughtful tone: ] I'll be a bit busy this month with what I have planned but after the new year comes in- I can teach you much as you want.
Does that sound good to you?
no subject
no subject
[ and, before he forgets- ] If you ever need help in anything, Elle, you let me know? It's the least I can do since you're helping me out big time with this project.
no subject
[ But she'll keep that in mind, because, with some exceptions where the Other side of her is concerned, Ellever is a team player. She knows when to ask for help. ]
Talk to you later.
