[audio] @riku; testing recovery limits [open]
Hey, this is Riku.
Between the ferry sinking, the loss of some supplies and a bunch of newcomers to get up to speed, I know we've all got a lot going on.
It could have been a lot worse. It wasn't because a lot of you stepped up to help. That's exactly what's going to see us through.
...So, thanks.
[ He pauses to rub his hands together, the resultant rasp could be anything. ]
Not to rain on our parade, but the crash got me thinking. Specifically, about dealing with injuries.
If anybody can teach basic first aid, I think everyone would benefit from learning.
[ There's a soft crackle, wind skimming across the tablet's microphone, a bit of a shiver in his voice: ]
For the ones using magic or other abilities to heal others, knowing what limits being here has imposed on those abilities is hard enough without finding out in the middle of an emergency.
I have an idea how we could test these limits in a pretty controlled environment. Contact me if you're interested.
[ He already feels like he's been talking too much, but there's a little more to say: ]
If no one's heard about it yet, we located an armory to the east over the river. There, you'll find weapons, knives and swords, stuff like that. In the basement is an area for training and target practice.
Aziraphale did most of the work, but there's a bridge over the river now. I left a torch at the armory. Should make it easier to find.
If anyone can figure out how they made that building practically invisible, might be worth putting it around a more central location in case of an attack.
That's all I got.
(Appended to the message is a list of respondents and skills they're willing to teach.)
Rosalind Lutece: first aid (lesson in exchange for 1 hr lab assist)
Soldier: basic field medicine
Jason Grace: first aid, improvised first aid kits
Clarke Griffin: advanced medicine, long term care
Matt: first aid
Daylight: Galateion first aid
Javert: wound dressing, stitching
Other stuff to think about
- everybody should carry first aid kits
- save rags & cloth scraps for bandages & splints
- central medical area?
- (Bruce) ask Will about an alarm for medical help

[ It's not really a heartfelt complaint so much as a familiar routine between them by now. ]
Guess it could be worse. Thanks.

If so... and you haven't found out what your limits are. You know, what you CAN'T heal, then all you'll have to do is try to heal some injuries.

[Masaomi takes a very long, very deep breath.]
So what's this about an invisible armory?
no subject
It's a building hidden in the forest to the east, over another river. The building itself is easy to miss. Some kind of crazy camouflage or something. Never really seen anything like it.
Inside are a bunch of weapons. No firearms. A training room with practice dummies and targets in the basement. Seems like it's been there for a long time.

LMF masaomi... please

I can do basic field medicine. Find injuries, bind and immobilize, stitching. Recognize concussion and infection. Nothing about long term care.
No price.
[Because it heard Rosalind's message, and wants to be clear.]

Thanks. That sounds like it'll come in handy in a crisis.
You know... you don't have to be the only one benefiting. What about Aziraphale and the other guy? Something for them?

Do you know anything about this armory aside from the fact that it was invisible? Mostly concerned that whoever it belongs to might come back to check in on it.

From how rusted the padlock on the door had been, it's been abandoned for a long, long time. The alarm set in case of forced entry was so old, it didn't even go off. Hate to say it, but I think they were lost with one of the resets.

Looks like it's been there for years. Neglected. I think the reason no one's been there for so long is because of its camouflage. It was practically invisible. If Ignis hadn't noticed something was off...

( in fact he knows a great deal, some of it from Claire, and most of it from patching himself up. is it weird for a blind guy to offer this? hmm, maybe. after the ridiculous destruction of the ferry, though, Matt will risk it. )

[He once patched up his ex-girlfriend's injured foot with a piece of wood, gauze, and duct tape. If supplies are limited or if they catch themselves in the woods with little to go on, it might be valuable knowledge.]
Now that you mention it, it might not be a bad idea to get some stashes set up for emergencies or maybe even some to-go packs that people could take on explorations. Depending on where injuries occur, it could mean the difference between getting someone a few feet to be treated versus dragging them for several miles.

If you know how to make other kits with unconventional materials, do you think you could teach others that, too? That way, we can get a bunch of us putting these kits together.

little did they know that "settle down" would not happen for several weeks. whoops.
audio, @cgriffin
And, because I wasn't there when it happened....how bad exactly was it? The fallout from the ferry crashing, that is.
no subject
[ Would they know? If their lantern fell into the depths, it'd be only a matter of time before their body washed ashore. Like Ka-- ]
Our supplies are gonna be lean for a while, too. I'm not sure what we'll do without the ferry.
I'll put you down. What's your name?

But volunteering this much information would garner attention. And that's the last thing he wants. Besides, wasn't there just a big to-do on the network a few days ago about people with supernatural abilities?]
This is only tangentially related, but it might be worth asking Dr. Ingram about the possibility of installing an alarm. A kind of SOS to notify anyone willing to serve on emergency duty.
Though I suppose a dedicated medical station would be most helpful.

[ Riku tried to do something about this. And now that the questions and observations are rolling in, he's realizing just how... completely unqualified he is for any of this. He doesn't know anything about medicine or first aid or triage. ]
Will just did that other alarm program, right? Wonder if he could adapt it for something like this.

( He's been wounded a lot during the course of his work, and since a visit to the doctor always seemed an unnecessary expense to him, it was basically a necessity that he learn. )
If you are open to suggestions, I also think it would be prudent for everyone to begin saving any scraps of cloth or torn clothing that they may have. It can easily be torn up and re-used to make lint or bandages.

The armory has knives? Was it camoflauged?
no subject
And... yeah. Knives, swords, stuff. I saw some throwing axes, too. I'm not sure what's hiding it, but I totally missed it. If Ignis hadn't noticed the trees looked kind of off, we probably would've walked right by.
