[audio] @riku; testing recovery limits [open]

Hey, this is Riku.

Between the ferry sinking, the loss of some supplies and a bunch of newcomers to get up to speed, I know we've all got a lot going on.

It could have been a lot worse. It wasn't because a lot of you stepped up to help. That's exactly what's going to see us through.

...So, thanks.

[ He pauses to rub his hands together, the resultant rasp could be anything. ]

Not to rain on our parade, but the crash got me thinking. Specifically, about dealing with injuries.

If anybody can teach basic first aid, I think everyone would benefit from learning.

[ There's a soft crackle, wind skimming across the tablet's microphone, a bit of a shiver in his voice: ]

For the ones using magic or other abilities to heal others, knowing what limits being here has imposed on those abilities is hard enough without finding out in the middle of an emergency.

I have an idea how we could test these limits in a pretty controlled environment. Contact me if you're interested.

[ He already feels like he's been talking too much, but there's a little more to say: ]

If no one's heard about it yet, we located an armory to the east over the river. There, you'll find weapons, knives and swords, stuff like that. In the basement is an area for training and target practice.

Aziraphale did most of the work, but there's a bridge over the river now. I left a torch at the armory. Should make it easier to find.

If anyone can figure out how they made that building practically invisible, might be worth putting it around a more central location in case of an attack.

That's all I got.

(Appended to the message is a list of respondents and skills they're willing to teach.)
Rosalind Lutece: first aid (lesson in exchange for 1 hr lab assist)
Soldier: basic field medicine
Jason Grace: first aid, improvised first aid kits
Clarke Griffin: advanced medicine, long term care
Matt: first aid
Daylight: Galateion first aid
Javert: wound dressing, stitching

Other stuff to think about
- everybody should carry first aid kits
- save rags & cloth scraps for bandages & splints
- central medical area?
- (Bruce) ask Will about an alarm for medical help

I know, that wasn't why I asked though.

[It's not really that he WANTS to be an open book. Some people find him hard to read, but he's never been the type to keep secrets or hide who he is. He speaks openly and sometimes that has gotten him in trouble. He certainly doesn't see the need to hide his backstory, but he did grow up without the need to explain so much. It's sort of weird being somewhere that NO ONE knows who he is or what that's really supposed to mean.]

I was just trying to figure out how to answer that question. If it was related to you saying I was responsible or just an unrelated question.

[That gets a chuckle in response.]

Not at all. I've only been here a month and while I've met a lot of people, there's obviously still a lot to learn about each other.

[Which was funny, he'd befriended Leo and Piper in less time and felt like he'd known them better than any two people. Of course, at the time, he'd been suffering from a bout of magical amnesia which might have had something to do with it. There was something to be said for friendships forged in a crisis though.]

I think it's important to know the people you're trying to save the world with or whatever. Although past experience tells me that sort of stuff has a way of coming out in the middle of a quest anyway.

Well, we're in a strange land and we've been given a task to complete. That's pretty quintessential quest stuff. Really the only thing we're missing is a prophecy kicking it all off...but who knows, we might just not have found it yet.

[Considering how much they DIDN'T know about this place and how much had gone unexplored, it wasn't IMPOSSIBLE to consider. Of course, he's applying his own understanding of the world to this place and, as he had learned early on, that isn't always the case. If this was following the "rules" he'd be in an entirely different underworld at the moment.]

Well [he pauses, considering where to start. He's not sure he wants to open with the 'I was abandoned by my mother in the woods to be raised by wolves' story. All Roman demigods had to go through the wolf house at some point anyway, so by demigod standards not exactly interesting.]

My first quest was facing a giant sea monster from ancient times. It mostly got harder from there since I had to face Titans and Giants and primordial gods after that.

[Rosinate had mentioned a Sora as well. Jason was curious about him and was reminded of when he had first arrived at Camp Half-Blood and everyone had talked about Percy and, he imagined, how Percy had felt upon arriving at New Rome and hearing about him. It was reassuring, in a way, to know that someone could leave such an impact on others. But, from his own experience, that can also be kind of painful in a way too.]

Maybe, but I can talk to you about it too. You hardly blinked when I started flying the other day. Makes me think you've seen your fair share of the interesting too.

little did they know that "settle down" would not happen for several weeks. whoops.

[What had Riku said about pushing? Jason decides it's best if he returns the favor, but he DOES want to hear more about what made Riku's life (and that of his friends) get interesting over the past few years]

I'll hold you to that then. Maybe next time we're both at work around here.

[Jason had taken up a number of projects, including this one involving first aid, and most of them required physical labor and little brain power. Talking during jobs like that could be nice.]
