[audio] @riku; testing recovery limits [open]

Hey, this is Riku.

Between the ferry sinking, the loss of some supplies and a bunch of newcomers to get up to speed, I know we've all got a lot going on.

It could have been a lot worse. It wasn't because a lot of you stepped up to help. That's exactly what's going to see us through.

...So, thanks.

[ He pauses to rub his hands together, the resultant rasp could be anything. ]

Not to rain on our parade, but the crash got me thinking. Specifically, about dealing with injuries.

If anybody can teach basic first aid, I think everyone would benefit from learning.

[ There's a soft crackle, wind skimming across the tablet's microphone, a bit of a shiver in his voice: ]

For the ones using magic or other abilities to heal others, knowing what limits being here has imposed on those abilities is hard enough without finding out in the middle of an emergency.

I have an idea how we could test these limits in a pretty controlled environment. Contact me if you're interested.

[ He already feels like he's been talking too much, but there's a little more to say: ]

If no one's heard about it yet, we located an armory to the east over the river. There, you'll find weapons, knives and swords, stuff like that. In the basement is an area for training and target practice.

Aziraphale did most of the work, but there's a bridge over the river now. I left a torch at the armory. Should make it easier to find.

If anyone can figure out how they made that building practically invisible, might be worth putting it around a more central location in case of an attack.

That's all I got.

(Appended to the message is a list of respondents and skills they're willing to teach.)
Rosalind Lutece: first aid (lesson in exchange for 1 hr lab assist)
Soldier: basic field medicine
Jason Grace: first aid, improvised first aid kits
Clarke Griffin: advanced medicine, long term care
Matt: first aid
Daylight: Galateion first aid
Javert: wound dressing, stitching

Other stuff to think about
- everybody should carry first aid kits
- save rags & cloth scraps for bandages & splints
- central medical area?
- (Bruce) ask Will about an alarm for medical help

I know first aid!

[ after the excited outburst, daylight does clarify what he said, albeit in a more sheepish voice: ] Um- Kind of. It's only for Galateions but better to offer something than nothing, right?

[ daylight can be helpful! excellent!

there's a faint fluttering in the background, no doubt his winglets, as daylights says, ]
Awesome! I'll, um, try to explain the physiology and stuff to the best of my abilities when I can. I'm not Emergency Aid or Meddy, but I did my best to learn from both of them.

Umm- A question: Do you think we can ask the forest spirits for help? I mean... This is their place. Maybe they know a few tricks or something.
sunborne: (116. - 🔥 - WHY HELLO.)

[personal profile] sunborne 2019-10-07 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
... Maybe we can figure it out? We have lots of bits and bobs of the language already. We just need to figure out its, um, lexicon and the structure.

In fact- [ hang on, give daylight a second to remember something: ] I actually, um, got something, on the day of the ferry's... incident.

[ yeah. let's call it that. ]

I got a translation for one of the forest spirit's language. It's not part of the app we have on the tablet too. It basically means I'm extending an invitation to join me, the speaker, as company.

[ oh!

when riku points that out, it feels like the proverbial lightbulb going off over his helm. ]
Yeah! It could be it! I mean- It came in as an app and everything. So it had to have come from Dr. Ingram or Ms. Robin.

[ ... which makes him wonder something, now that this is brought up: ] So this means others should have their own special phrases then? I know a lot of the others were involved.

Oh! That's a good idea. [ he thinks he spoke with her before, maybe on the network- she came across to daylight as a really smart and a really scary lady. ] Thanks, Riku. You're the best.

[ daylight makes a quick note on one of his sketchpads, jotting down the name and information that riku had just provided. ]

Alright... Ask the spirits for help and fingers crossed that it'll work. [ he pauses now, clearly hesitant about what he had said. a strange and out of character moment for him, thanks to how hard he tries to be cheerful and optimistic. ] I hope it works. I've been, um, hanging out with them a lot. Trying to at least. I think they just want to live their lives too, just like us.
sunborne: (157. - 🔥 - FOND FAREWELLS.)

//slams my hands in here and waves frantically hello!!

[personal profile] sunborne 2019-11-03 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
[ daylight stills a bit at the concern he hears in riku's voice.

it's weird how he always finds himself being caught off guard that someone is concerned about his well-being. especially someone neat as riku because it- he's not sure. it feels weird.

but it's also nice. ]

-I'll try! [ daylight bounces back with his usual chipperness. ] Least I can do is not be, like, a total headache to you guys when stuff goes down!

And the same goes to you, okay? If you ever need help... [ he falls quiet for a bit, unsure of how to word this. it had never been his strongest suit. more so for moments like these. ] Just know people here care for you and want to help you out! Remember that, buddy!
