@daylit; audio.

Hey guys! So, I made a post about studying the language a month or so, right? I made progress on it! Not a lot of progress but some progress? With words and everything? Got a few phrases and descriptives and stuff like that!

Hmmm... It'll be easier to explain this if I demonstrated it to you guys, right? Right- I'll use the ocarina for this but, um, I promise, we'll try to transcribe the melodies to other instruments soon. Anyways-

[ daylight then proceeds to play a series of melodies and notes, taking his time to explain what they mean and how to play it on the ocarina.

when he finishes his little demo, he continues talking: ]
Later, in the day, I'll add all of this stuff to the spirit language app we have on the tablet here. So you guys can practice it for yourselves if you want to do that.

And... Um... For the next few months, I'll be more focused on trying to crack the grammar of the spirits' language since I think the lexicon - I think that means the total words and stuff? (sorry, grandma!) - is robust enough that I don't need to keep digging for new combinations to the phonetics anymore.

So yeah... That's it! If you guys, like, have questions about how to play the music and, er, stuff- Let me know? I'll try to answer what I can.

[ A little, he says. He practically doubled what they know about their language! Maybe more? Riku can't be sure, he just can tell this is a lot of work. ]

This is great, Day. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Do you mind teaching me how to play?

[ It seems like a skill he'd need if he is to be useful. ]

[That instrument does feel less nerve-wracking than singing. And it's more portable than a double-bass cello.]

Does humming work? Or does it have to be an instrument?

[ An audio clip! He's getting the hang of this. He picked up an ocarina in the first few days he was here, and he's been practicing since. Slow, picked out ocarina notes incoming...

In order:
- A friendly greeting
- A polite thank you
- "I'm lost."
- The phrase for "Are you okay?", except he missed some fiddly part where he's supposed to hold down down multiple holes or something
- "Show?"
- Another polite thank you

Now that is going to be useful. I've got this melody from Pluto that I'm trying to figure out. Everyone says it might be a spirit message, but fuck if I can figure it out on my own. This could help.

I don't...

Do I need to pay for one?

[ The sounds throw Sora off, but the answer back is reassuring! He's pretty sure he's heard this voice before, but he doesn't want to assume anything - he could easily be mistaken, after all.

One more ocarina reply - "I am - thank you" - then he'll switch back to text. ]

this must have taken a really long time to figure out
it's so cool that we can talk to them
is this what you did with your grandma back where you're from?

did they all live in the philippines? my family's mostly from manila.

yeah you got it, it means sky! i was trying to decide between langit and kalangitan but i figured that kalangitan would be a little too long to tell people lol

[ Frankly, he's surprised that he's met anyone here at all who also knows Tagalog - finding another Pinoy was rare enough in New Jersey. Day's doing great! Although now Sora's wondering if this is Day? He isn't discriminatory but he's never seen a giant robot in Luzon. He did say he learned all those languages while he was on Earth though... Maybe it was a temporary stay? What a mystery! ]

[ Old Manila? Sora vaguely remembers the name from when Skyler visited... Something like the Intramuros? He didn't get to visit that area a whole ton, they bounced between Northern Manila and Santiago when they visited. ]

you think? well maybe if we can change it someday i'll give it a go

did they live in california? a couple of my aunts live in la
my mom lived in new jersey so my dad moved there with her

and also are you daylight? if you are we met at the docks about a week ago
[ the username and the voice are a dead giveaway but it never hurts to check. ]

So it works, but not perfectly.

[An instrument does sound like the best bet.]

Did you make that ocarina?
