Hey guys! So, I made a post about studying the language a month or so, right? I made progress on it! Not a lot of progress but some progress? With words and everything? Got a few phrases and descriptives and stuff like that!

Hmmm... It'll be easier to explain this if I demonstrated it to you guys, right? Right- I'll use the ocarina for this but, um, I promise, we'll try to transcribe the melodies to other instruments soon. Anyways-

[ daylight then proceeds to play a series of melodies and notes, taking his time to explain what they mean and how to play it on the ocarina.

when he finishes his little demo, he continues talking: ] Later, in the day, I'll add all of this stuff to the spirit language app we have on the tablet here. So you guys can practice it for yourselves if you want to do that.

And... Um... For the next few months, I'll be more focused on trying to crack the grammar of the spirits' language since I think the lexicon - I think that means the total words and stuff? (sorry, grandma!) - is robust enough that I don't need to keep digging for new combinations to the phonetics anymore.

So yeah... That's it! If you guys, like, have questions about how to play the music and, er, stuff- Let me know? I'll try to answer what I can.

Just glad I can help you guys out while I can. It seemed like something I could do because I can kind of remember my grandma's lessons on linguistics and cryptography.

More of the former than the latter, though.

and, well, it seems only right to offer a hand out to someone willing to learn the language if someone expresses an interest in it. that's the whole basis of linguistics, as his grandma once told me. ]

[ An audio clip! He's getting the hang of this. He picked up an ocarina in the first few days he was here, and he's been practicing since. Slow, picked out ocarina notes incoming...

In order:
- A friendly greeting
- A polite thank you
- "I'm lost."
- The phrase for "Are you okay?", except he missed some fiddly part where he's supposed to hold down down multiple holes or something
- "Show?"
- Another polite thank you ]

Now that is going to be useful. I've got this melody from Pluto that I'm trying to figure out. Everyone says it might be a spirit message, but fuck if I can figure it out on my own. This could help.

[ there's a weird fluttering sound in the background. those who know daylight well enough - or seen how he acts on a general basis around the village or beacon - will know by now that it's his winglets, flapping in approval. ]

[ oh. hmmm. give him a sec- daylight doesn't have an ocarina but he switches to his father's tongue, using the musical(ish) qualities to let out a series of cheeps and chirrs and sounds to reply back with the following:

You can definitely try humming if you want! I've used just my voice in the past and it was pretty successful.

[ er. he was using an alien language but- ] And a friend of mine tried using their voice to reply to one a while back. The spirit we were talking to got the general gist of what he was trying to say and everything!

It's all about hitting the right notes, I think.

Oh no! Not at all!

You can find them at the general store and you can just take what you need from there. Unless someone specifies it, you don't need to pay for anything here.

I mean currency isn't exactly going to be super useful in a world we're trying to save, right?

Yeah! When I got to hang out with her, sometimes she taught me what she used to do and she also showed me how to learn languages by breaking it down and stuff. She also used to speak to me exclusively in the languages we were studying, so I got the handle of it faster.

It's how I got to learn French, Tagalog, and Spanish when I was still on Earth! I'm happy my grandma's lessons can be put to use here for everyone here with the spirit language.

It's been forever - ever and ever and ever!! - since I've met someone else who knows it! I've only known my Auntie Chris and Auntie Eps to speak it. Maybe Mrs. Millstein but she wasn't all that fluent in it.

[ then something clicks for daylight and he quickly sends out another message: ] Is your username Tagalog then?????

I thought it looked familiar. It's something about the clouds, right?

[ not exactly but give day someone has got to give some slack here: he hasn't used his aunties' first langauge in decades. ]

yeah you got it, it means sky! i was trying to decide between langit and kalangitan but i figured that kalangitan would be a little too long to tell people lol

[ Frankly, he's surprised that he's met anyone here at all who also knows Tagalog - finding another Pinoy was rare enough in New Jersey. Day's doing great! Although now Sora's wondering if this is Day? He isn't discriminatory but he's never seen a giant robot in Luzon. He did say he learned all those languages while he was on Earth though... Maybe it was a temporary stay? What a mystery! ]

[ almost got it! day suddenly finds himself relieved to know he's not that rusty when it comes to his aunties' native language.

it takes him a minute or two to reply back with a message. it's been so long since he's really gave thought about his family's lives and histories ever since they... you know... so it takes a bit of digging around his memory files to get the information he knows, needing to decrypt past the surprisingly thick and heavy crawl that obscures most of the data. ]

I know Auntie Eps grew up in Old Manila, Hero's Bay, but I'm not sure about Auntie Chris and Mrs. Millstein. I know they had ties to the Old Families of Amorado but I think they either were born in the U.S. or moved to the U.S.

And, for what its worth, I think kalangitan would have been a totally cool name. If anyone ever got curious about it that would be a cool thing to explain.

[ Old Manila? Sora vaguely remembers the name from when Skyler visited... Something like the Intramuros? He didn't get to visit that area a whole ton, they bounced between Northern Manila and Santiago when they visited. ]

And, um, sorry but I think this is where the 'different universes mean convergence of facts and information' kicks in.

Never heard of any of those places besides California and, where I'm from, the only people who stay there are the rangers. I think my Auntie Laura and Uncle Leeds once travelled there to investigate a problem during the storm season but that's about it. Auntie Chris' family stayed in New York City - so you knew they were super-rich to stay there - and Auntie Eps kind of? Drifted around after she got to the U.S.

There's, like, so many cool designs and stuff. I was lucky to find one that I can kind of fiddle without fear of it getting crushed. [ rest in peace.... the other ocarinas.... ]
