[ Ellever had tried to post something with audio, but anxiety has gotten the best of her. Especially since she doesn't know a lot of people in Beacon, just yet. So Beacon is just going to have to deal with her terrible texting skills unless they respond with audio. Her work emails are beautiful and perfect, like the book nerd she is, but just jotting down a quick something? Sorry. Just sorry. ]

hi everybody! hope you all had an okay new years? can't say i missed the ball drop thing in new york. but i don't think i'm a huge fan of the onion thing the spirits like?

this is elle brandt, if we haven't spoken before. i have kind of a favor to ask of some of you? i'm looking for any musical instruments that we have here in beacon. either instruments you have, if you don't mind me borrowing them for just a little while, or instruments you've seen laying around somewhere (if possible). i found a kazoo in the general store but that's about it.

i won't be borrowing them for very long, hopefully. if they're really important to you, don't feel obligated. we don't have too many good distractions around here. especially if it's from your home.

Have you had many offers?

a few! a mystery instrument, and someone's ocarina. and i guess there's a piano in the community center. that's not terribly portable, but it should be good for experimenting with.

do you play any instruments?

Not all the time, but I do know how to play the piano. In fact, there's one where I live here. I just haven't felt like playing it much.

If you need the community centre piano moved, I can give it a shot.

i can't really blame you, this place kind of sucks creativity away.

[ Instead you have to worry about... much bigger problems. Though she imagines that the Romantics would have something to say about that. ]

that's super nice of you to offer. don't worry about it. i just meant that if i and the person i'm working with are trying to make the spirit language more accessible, the piano's probably not going to help too much.

[ But hey, if she makes strides, there's more than one piano, apparently. So that's something? ]

If I can ask, who are you teaming up with for this little project? A secret musical genius the spirits have brought to Beacon?

it's daylight's project, i'm just helping him out.

[ It feels really good to have something tangible to do. Hopefully, he doesn't mind her outing him. ]

i work with all sorts back home, so i guess i'm keen to learn as much about the spirits as i can.

[ And she, herself, is "all sorts." ]

Daylight's quite a smart man. It's good that he has someone offering to possibly make everyone's ears bleed with her attempt at playing them.

[ can he call him a man? is that allowed? oh well. ]

What kind of "all sorts"?

oy. i can put my fingers on top of keys and plunk with the best of em.

[ Probably. Beacon will find out. Or anyone around the Community Center will. In any case, being unusually good at random things is something Ellever has precedent for. Except this is a lot more pleasant than headshots with a gun. ]

we've got will o wisps, a giant moth, a bunyip, and a wendigo, for a short list. the green-eyed spirits are just slightly nicer than our wendigo.

[ he's preparing himself for the potential of an elle-induced migraine. ]

You're kidding me.

A bloody wendigo? Are you absolutely certain?

[ Rude. ]

oh yeah. completely. we have to keep it sequestered or else it starts killing every living thing it sees. it'll only eat raw meat as well. whoever's lowest on the company totem pole has to feed it, because it's not exactly pretty to watch and hear.

[ There are a lot of benefits to being #2 and this is one of them. ]

I wish I got to see that.

[ he's a bit of a supernatural nerd, in case that wasn't obvious. ]

Why did you attract the attention of a wending? Were you playing horrible music?

[ Supernatural nerd, meet supernatural nerd. ]

we found a few news reports of some pretty grisly deaths that people were attributing to a bear. BUT bears don't write with the blood of their food. so my colleagues and i went out to find it. that's what i used to do, in between putting together secure details for celebrity birthday parties and such. had to sedate it for the entire trip back to los angeles in a horse trailer, only thing we could find that was big enough.

[ is it wrong he wishes he could've wrestled this bear? ]

What did you end up doing with it?

[ Kol, no. ]

it lives with us in LA. we couldn't figure out what to do with it, really, so now we just keep an eye on it. after making sure its pen was reinforced to withstand a freakin hurricane.

And all I have to give you in return for such a story is the fact I own a rabid dog that doesn't behave.

[ that his brother, btw. klaus, the werewolf-vampire hybrid, is very much like an untrained feral dog everyone pretends to like. ]

Your life is far more interesting. I wish we could take the ferry so I could see this terrifying bear.

[ That just sounds... tragic, without context. ]

the wendigo's pretty interesting to look at, i guess, but you can't tell where it's looking because it doesn't have any visible eyes, so it gets unnerving after a while. the bunyip is a lot more fun and less terrifying. do they have bunyips where you're from?

[ again, do his family members count as being one of these creatures? ]

I wish.

All we have is witches, werewolves, lions, tigers, and very ugly vampires. If I could trade you for a mythological creature, it would be a wendigo. They seem like far more fun werewolves.

i mean, i bet your werewolves are sized more appropriately than fifteen feet tall.

[ Unless they're just enormous, but the wendigo is honestly a handful. Thank goodness for reinforced steel. ]

When they haven't Hulked out, they look like ordinary, very ugly men. Around 6'0", sometimes a little shorter. Unkempt hair. The women wear the gene well, which really isn't a surprise.

[ he's lying. some of the werewolves are babes. ]

oh, they look different when they're not shifted? they just look like regular people where i'm from.

[ Which is a good thing, but there's still enough weirdness that they can't easily hold down jobs without awkward questions during That Time of the Month. ]

i worked with one. he's nice.

[ how could you? werewolves are the enemy. ]

Really?
What's nice about him? I'm curious.

[ Listen, Kol, Ellever isn't Team Edward or Team Jacob. ]

he's polite, shows up to work on time, has a good sense of humor, and doesn't try to scare the human employees.

[ but is she team rosalie? ]

Well, seems like he's at least well-behaved. Many werewolves I know lack quite a lot of manners. Eat with their elbows on the table, barely excuse themselves when they leave the table, and refuse to pay for the entire bill and instead insist on splitting.

[ he's joking about the last one.

how horrible. what were they, born in some kind of den?

[ Ha, ha. Jokes. ]

are werewolves common where you're from? sounds like you have a lot of experience.

I'm far too intimately familiar than I'd like to be.

[ of course, kol's wondered if ever admitting he knows vampires, werewolves, witches, lions, tigers, and bears will inevitably come back to bite him as it always does. but sometimes he has to take risks. so, he takes one on elle, guessing that perhaps she won't pose a threat like witches, niklaus, werewolves, and vampires have tried to pose over the centuries. ]

Not every dog you walk by happens to be a werewolf, but they do sometimes overpopulate some cities. Some really need to learn how to groom themselves.
