Who's shitting great idea was it to show some people something out in the middle of the lake and then kill them when they try to find it again?

[The querulous old man voice is currently very angry-sounding. There's a weird rumbling in the background of his voice. Stone might actually be... growling? Yeah, he's definitely growling.]

Did anyone see what did it? I want to find whatever that was and tear their throat out.

[He's a bit bloodthirsty when he's pissed off. Sorry, kids.]

[ but, just like every danger day has faced, his concern for his own well-being is overridden when he realises the guy(??) could only be here because...

daylight immediately steps forward, raising his servos up to show he's friendly. ]

Are you hurting anywhere still? Are you missing anything? [ day hadn't gotten a chance to visit the docks this month - stuff's been coming up - and so he's left wondering what the heck is going on. ] What happened?

[At least a tall but brittle-looking old man probably isn't an obviously huge threat. And compares to Daylight, he's not that tall, anyway.

He stops his irritable pacing to frown over-- and then up-- at Daylight. Then he flashes his teeth-- sharper than the average human's-- in a grimace. Or maybe another growl. The subtle rumble hasn't let up yet.]

Rook and I tried to follow the ferry. Something didn't like that.

[ day isn't a fan of confrontation if it can be avoided. (especially with the seemingly elderly. he was taught to be polite around them by his grandma!)

when he hears what happens, daylight's winglets hitch up in both shock and recognition. ]

The ferry on the lake...? [ he lowers his servos now. if only to rest one under his chin as he went over the bare facts he had. ] It might have been the thing that the others talked about last month. Um- Did you guys manage to get a glimpse of anything in particular before...

[ you know. ]

And oh! Do you need anything, mister? Or need me to contact anyone?

Whatever it was, it hit me from behind, and I couldn't smell anything from it.

[He hunches and then flattens his shoulders, as if there might be something on them that needs settling, but the growl fades away, at least.]

I'm fine. I think. For someone who just died.

[He pauses.]

What day is it? How long was I dead for?

You tried to follow the ferry, right? That would have been... Four days, at the most.

[ daylight pauses, considering something from, er, uncomfortably personal experience. ] That must have been a heck of a way to go, to take that long to recover.

Haven't lost anything, have you, mister? [ daylight winces because oof. even he could feel the lack of tact from that question. ] Sorry if that's, like, super intrusive or something.

Slammed into the water. It smashed my ribcage, I think.

[He prods at his chest with a thoughtful frown. Seems whole, now, anyway.]

What do you mean, lost anything?

Um... I got... returned as well. A few months back thanks to an incident. [ he shrugs, trying to act casual but the way his winglets stay stiff and still gives away to his uncertainty. ] When I came back and interacted with stuff, I realised something was off... I lost something in the process of coming back, it seems.

[Stone frowns. More.]

I don't feel like I lost anything. I feel normal enough. But if I lost something, would I necessarily know? What did you lose?

I think you'll notice it. Whether you lost something or not. The town has a way of leaving its mark on you, you know? [ as for the question directed at him

daylight looks away, humming in a distracted tone. he almost wants to say, no, he doesn't want to answer that but that isn't fair. not when the man is being honest. ]

I can't see yellow anymore. When I came back, I realised quickly it was gone and only shares of grey in its place. [ a pause, and he adds with a conviction only a teenager can muster: ] It sucks.

[He does sound like a fledgling, a bit. Even if he's huge.]

Huh. I know there are colors out there a Raksura can't see, but having the ability to see a color taken away sounds pretty bad. My eyesight looks the same as ever, though. And nothing else feels off.

[ daylight listens carefully and…  he can’t squint — his protoform isn’t that elastic — but he does the equivalent of it for a few seconds.

then, after considering it, he nods in what seems to be agreement. ]

I think that means you’re lucky then, mister. [ day pauses, realising how, um, tactless that must have sounded. ] Er. All things considered. Getting killed the way you described must have sucked big time.

[ definitely… a teenager… ]

[Stone gives Daylight a long look, as if trying to decide whether to be annoyed by that. Sadly (luckily?) his anger has started to wear itself out now, and he can tell letting it lose on this... kid... isn't going to help anybody, and will just make him feel bad later. So he just growls irritably, but pats Daylight's elbow, the easiest thing to reach.]

Worse than when I died the first time, sure. But it was still fast. Could have been a lot worse.
