[audio] @Oracle & @Witch; Joint Post
[ The audio feed flicks on, Elden’s voice coming on over it, sounding well rested and calm; ]
Hey everyone, so, with the ferry coming in this month I've finally been able to get some of my own projects done.
One, is something Wanda was helping me with. I've gotten two large log books for us to keep information about anything we find in Beacon.
I'll be placing one in the town hall and another in the Inn so that everyone can add things to it that we discover in Beacon. Like, for example, the Church? It’s not sanctified ground. If anything it’s just a normal building or that the tablets have a magical aura. Think of the books kind of like encyclopedias.
Knowing is half the battle, after all, and the more we collect and share the better chance we stand at getting the sun out.
[ a pause, after which wanda enters into the audio feed, voice low and a bit grainier than usual from lack of sleep. nails have plucked themselves against her for some time now from the ever present darkness; the strain is working on her, but her words are clear. ]
Elden’s ideas for centralized knowledge bases are very good — I was happy to assist. I will be here to help him by monitoring the book in the town hall. The place has changed a good deal since its original emptiness. I find it… [ she pauses, fingers curling, searching for the right word. ] ...perplexing. Some of the recordings are… quite personal. So while the books are for everyone to write in, I will simply check on that one every few days. Take pictures of the notes for safekeeping. Ensure no mischievous spirits are — well — spiriting away with it, I suppose. Elden will do the same with the book in the tavern.
[ When Wanda finishes, Elden pipes back in again; ]
The other is something less...clinical.
[ he posts a picture of a very dimly lit wall, illuminated by his lantern. The wall is decorated with a painted tree and above it, written in cursive letters; "For the Remembered." ]
It has been hard for all of us. We left people behind and maybe can never get back to. So, I figured we can at least remember them to keep us going, you know? If you have a picture or even just want to put their name on one of the branches that's great. Anyways, that's all for right now.
[OOC; so here is the google doc for the log books. You can add things for what characters find in game. Anything from strange findings to successful projects (plants that you’ve found can be grown nocturnally! Odd behaviors of the river monster! The fact that morse code works with the lighthouse keeper! LANTERNS CAN BE PUT OUT AHH BEWARE, etc.).
The wall of Remembrance is also available for everyone in game in the town hall to put up photos, drawings or names of people they love, living, dead or otherwise.
Responses will come from either character depending on the subject matter. Wanda is
dark red and Elden is
golden rod. ]

in the meantime: ]
Personal? Or private?
@witch
mmm. to be honest, a blend of both, depending on your perspective. i found audio recordings and even transcriptions of conversations we have had with each other. the— general we.
some scenic photos. but then photos of us around the town.
nothing... inappropriate, if you understand? but an invasion of privacy.
[ a pause. ]
i did not keep reading what i found, but from what i could tell, the records were verging on too many to rummage through and i felt uncomfortable doing so. i saw one of mine and removed it. i don't know if it will simply reappear.

Point is, it'd be tough. Someone/thing should've been noticed taking our photos - or any photos about town, and they'd need flash to take anything with any reliability, especially a moving target.

I spoke to Doc Ingram earlier. There aren't any satellites, so there's no real way to track the devices apparently, no way to ping someone else's location and that no-one's done it before - or no-one that he'd admit to. In theory, that means that anything anonymous should still remain anonymous, but in reality that probably just means that there's no way to trace a specific post back to a specific device.
Didn't think to ask about recording. [ also didn't think to look which, great fucking job, parker. ] I can look into it, see if I can figure out how.
[ unless it's magic. fuck magic. ]
@ oracle ; In response to the above
no subject
And yeah, you could track them if you had the right technology for it. We don't, the tablets don't, and neither does this town, so in theory, we're untraceable. [ except, you know, apparently somewhat not. ]
...What do you mean they give off magic?
no subject
[ As for Spidey's question; ]
I found out they're magical when I went to detect for magic by the river. I mean, it makes sense I suppose. How else could they make this kind of communicative network? [ Elden's medieval fantasy is showing. ]
no subject
Yep. So you know how your eye processes light into an image that you see? A camera does the same thing. [ loosely, loosely speaking. ]
Where I'm from, it's normally a wireless network. The exact how would depend on the technology used but simply put, it's just a signal being transmitted from one place to another. [ but, you know, that's not the important thing here. ] What else did you find out about them?
no subject
Not much else unfortunately. It was just kind of a random thing I stumbled across.
no subject
Do you normally stumble across magical signals?
no subject
As for that question; ]
Only if i cast the spell to sense for it. Otherwise I could go by something magical and not know if I don't think to do it.
1/2
HMM. ]
2/3 you know i should just assume that i should GO ONE MORE than what i think i need for combos

Otherwise, I don't really know. It doesn't feel like an overly magical place if that's what you're wondering.
@daylit; voice.
That's a good idea, you guys! Keeping track of our stuff would be pretty helpful for us and new faces in the long run. I'll try to add some stuff later within the week.
[ he then pauses for a second. as if trying to figure out. when he speaks up again, he's surprisingly sombre and respectful. ]
And thank you for the second thing. The wall. That's- That's nice. It's kind of similar to what we have back on the starship I'm stationed in. Only it's for the deceased and stuff.
@oracle
[ Though he can't help but laugh a bit sheepishly at the second bit. ]
Well, I just figured, why not? It's hard to keep motivated when you don't know what you're motivation is so, I figured; people we care about. Best motive there is, really.
no subject
[ he falls quiet for a few seconds, humming thoughtfully to himself. a stalling tactic as he tries to find the words (and nerves) to say what he wanted to say.
thankfully, he soon does: ] I miss them. My family. Seeing their faces will make me miss them more but yeah- I agree. They're the best kind of motivation we can get while we're here. And seeing the faces of others' loved ones too- That'll be interesting.
no subject
[ Could giant constructs even paint with hands that huge? Well, okay maybe he shouldn't ask. It would be a little rude.
However, he can't help but feel his smile falter into something a bit sadder when he hears that. ]
Yeah, I can't agree more. It's going to be hard to draw my own friends but...things you care about are never easy I guess.

[ daylight, like, totally owes this guy a heck of a favour now. he was just wondering what medium to use since he doesn't think his pastels would last too long on the wall.
and it looks like the chance to repay him back makes itself known soon enough! upon hearing the comment of how it'll be difficult to draw his friends, daylight can't help but impulsively offer something in reply to that: ]
If you want- I can draw them for you. It's the least I can do for you, buddy!
