A proposition for you, Beacon:
The Night Market is set to return this month, and with them, the machine that gives answers.
For reasons a certain subset of you will understand, I refuse to go anywhere near the thing ever again.
And yet, I still have questions.
Hold that thought for a moment.
Some of you have come to me with requests for new tablet programs. "Apps" as we call them, but I realize that term means nothing to people from worlds without it.
In the past, I offered my services relatively free of charge. Spirit of goodwill and all that.
But I did say it wouldn't last forever.
Henceforth, anyone requiring new apps or other technological assistance will be charged one answer from the Night Market's machine.
The answer must be to a question of my choosing, and it must be documented in order to count.
Payment is expected upfront, and all payments are non-refundable for obvious reasons.
If you require a portfolio of my work, you're probably already using it.
Aside from the few basic functions, a good deal of the apps on these tablets are mine.
If you require an incentive that isn't tablet-related, I'll lay one other offer on the table:
I still know the location of a place that this group has yet to discover.
But that'll cost you two answers.
The short version, for those of you too lazy to read:
If you want anything from me, you'll have to ask a question to the machine, and give me the answer with proof of where you got it.
A simple transaction, but if you have any questions, don't worry, those are still free.
[OOC NOTE: any apps/modifications characters request from Will still need to be approved as player projects by the mods. They will likely take some time to create, especially since he lost his fancy hacker tablet, so nothing will be instant. If you have any ooc questions, hit me up over at
leucrotta or just PM Will's journal.]

How often do you negotiate trades?
I've already put up my offer, now it's your turn.
Anything can be valuable in the right context.
no subject
[Fact finding, really.]
It would be more of a negotiation if I was certain I wanted something. For now I am only considering options available to me. What I might get for what I might have to offer.
no subject
But fine. We'll play your game for a bit.
Answers from the machine are the most valuable thing you can offer me.
I also accept tablet parts, if they're the right kind. I'm assuming you know what a processor is? A hard drive?
Radio parts are also acceptable, provided they aren't destroyed.
If you have anything that might be classified as "black market", I might consider it.

[Though given the demographics of people here he understands why the question needs to be asked.]
Does this offer extend to tech beyond the tablet?
no subject
I can work on other things, if that's your question. I'm an engineer, after all.
As for payment, that depends entirely on what it is. I have no use for your microwave, for example.

The terminal attached to my uniform was badly damaged in my death. I would like it to be repaired.
no subject
I'm sure I can handle it, and in fact it will likely be a breath of fresh air after all of this ancient tech.
no subject
I don't expect you can fix most of those things with what is available here.
But I want control of the logs again.
no subject
Without whatever network it was originally connected to, I won't be able to fix those functions.
But the logs, yes.
Does that mean we have a deal?
no subject
[He can't expect much more from it, but if he can record his own data it might be useful if any of his own people came along.]
Alright. I will make this deal with you. One question for fix the terminal.

Your question is this: how many other planets in this universe are still inhabited by living things?
