Okay. I give up.

Rosinante and I have been pouring over this crossword puzzle book from the General Store for a long time and between the two of us we just have no idea what some of these clues are referring to.

You guys are all from different worlds, right? Maybe one of you can help us.

[He includes a picture. The picture is an open puzzle book, turned to a mostly completed crossword puzzle page. Anyone from a normal, modernish Earth might realize that most of what they have left blank are due to context problems related to being from very different realities.

We figured we would give you the solutions, in case you are like us and play characters who would actually BE GOOD at crosswords while we are not.

Couple days on and off? Maes is better at these than I am, I found that out.

Who or what is Pharaoh?

A title, similar to King or Emperor. Much like a king has a crown, a pharaoh had an ankh-- although it wasn't solely used as a symbol of him, so the simile has its limits.

They ruled over a country called Egypt once upon a time.

It's an impressive effort, considering cultural references are rather difficult unless you're enmeshed in the culture itself.

Which ones did you recognize?

Mostly just the general words and some got filled in through context. For example, I still don't know what animatronics are, but we figured out Babe is the answer just because the rest of the words around it worked.

We learned that the hard way when I tried solving the crossword puzzle from Rosinante's newspaper. But we thought maybe if we worked together on this book that, between the two of us, we'd get it.

We didn't consider the fact that both our worlds are still nothing like some of the others out there.

I believe that's how that language works, but old Earth languages are not my specialty.
Still, I think it means "of Vinci" or "from Vinci". Something like that.
People apparently didn't really do surnames back then.

Oh. A couple of the dead languages back home people still use parts of in common speech and that's a word I even recognize, but hadn't expected it in this context.

Finished the one Rosinante gave me during the blizzard and by then I was itching for another one. Remembered seeing some on the shelves of the store and figured we could try our hand at those...
