[Network - voice] @ SuprNerd- we could be heroes, just for one day
[The audio starts with the sounds of rustling papers, as if Quentin is reading this from something he's written down (he is) and his voice starts out stilted.]
Hello? This is for all of you who live here in Beacon and it's about something I've thought about since the town meeting. At this meeting, there was one thing we didn't-- okay, so there were actually two things, but I want to talk about the one thing and-- shit. Sorry. There was one thing we didn't talk about, and that's the fact that several of us can do things. I've talked to some of you and-- fuck. Hi. I'm, uhm, Quentin and I'm a magician? We're from, well, Eliot and I are from the same world? Or, the same timeline? I don't know what to call it, but we came from the same place? But, yes. I'm Quentin. Hello.
And I've talked to some of you and you could do amazing things. Brilliant, magical things and that made me think that, what if there's more? What if a lot of us can do amazing things, but we just don't know because we haven't told each other yet? So I'm proposing that we talk to each other and if you're not comfortable with everyone knowing what you can do-- and I get that, I do, because back home we weren't really supposed to talk about magic either, at least not to non-magical people. But okay-- if that makes you uncomfortable, you could always just talk to me? There's a private setting to these texts or we could meet up. Or maybe some of you will want proof of magic and I can show you?
But most importantly, we can do these amazing things and that could maybe help with some of this? Right now, everyone is searching through the forest on foot and in small groups. If we find out what we can do, maybe it's possible to make teams that can search without having to put themselves in harms way? Maybe someone out there can fly? Someone who could fly out and see which way we need to go to get through? Maybe someone is telekinetic? Or, can talk to plants? Maybe one of you can warg in to some of the spirits? Maybe someone is a shapeshifter or a skinwalker-- or, god, you're getting all of this from popular fiction and now everyone has to hear about it... sorry, where was I?
Okay, so maybe if we talk to each other about this, maybe we can find a better way of exploring this place and maybe we can find a better solution to the problem of World Eaters coming for us.
Because the X-men were better when they were a team? And-- and even Frodo couldn't get the ring to Mordor without the Fellowship. So, maybe we can do something like that. Make powered teams and use this, to defend ourselves and to explore this world.
But, uh, it wouldn't be fair to expect any of you to share with me, if I'm not willing to share myself. So, if-- I can do simple wards? For our homes. To ward places like the church, which we know has been destroyed once already or maybe the Inn? I'd need someone to cast with me, but I think we can do it. Ward it from harm or put a shield spell on it, so it's safe. I can mend things, and if anyone wants help mending small objects, I'm willing to help.
I guess that's all I have to say. I hope you'll consider this and that you'll help me keep us all safe.
[indistinct and muttered] and fuck that guy for saying I couldn't. Stupid, fuck-- [click]

Okay. Okay, so a hobbit is like a small human, but they have really hairy feet and they don't like adventure. They just want to live out their lives in peace in their Hobbit holes in the Shire. But, the wizard Gandalf comes through the town to look in on his dear friend? This is where the adventure starts, because now there's change in the air. Now, Bilbo who lives there has already had his adventure in another book? But his nephew Frodo? He gets the ring from Bilbo, who stole it from Gollum. And when he puts it on, he's invisible. This sounds like a good thing, yeah? For a hobbit who doesn't want trouble. But, putting the ring on makes Frodo wake up the Fallen Kings and now they're out looking for him. So he has no choice but to destroy the Ring? He has a lot of help from his best friend Samwise and-- okay, so this is a very long story. But I would love to talk to you about this,
I know about it because I've read the books.

Huh
Maybe Ignis was right
I should try to read something sometime
Do you know if they have them here?
And to answer your other question
Do you want specifics
Or just a general idea?
no subject
Just a general idea? I mean, unless it's something that is really better explained with specifics or a demonstration? Like, I know that what I can do, is. Strange? And not really something I can explain except to say that it's magic and that might not be helpful for everyone, but I can show it. So, whatever you're comfortable with, I guess?
no subject
But
I'll ask the librarian about it
What's it called?
[So he doesn't sound like a fool trying to relay this description.]
Got it
I'll just give you a list then
Weapons: swords, daggers, pole arms, guns, machinery, royal arms, my lantern probably
Magic: fire, ice, lighting,
Other: warping, recovery, armiger
I can do a lot more at home
But most of it doesn't work here
no subject
I have questions? Can I ask questions? Because warping? You can teleport? And recovery. Is that healing, but better? And last one, what the hell is armiger? But also, wow. You can do a lot of things. That's awesome.
Pole and royal arms, though. Is that-- some kind of dance? It sounds like it's something you'd use for pole dancing. Not that poledancing isn't impressive, because it is. Those dancers are strong.

Fillory and Further
Got it
Warping is kind of like teleportation, yeah
It's kind of hard to describe, but I can show you sometime
Recovery is healing
Not sure if it's really better
But we used it a lot to save on potions
Armiger is like a magical storage space
Put anything you want in there
Then just summon it back
No it's
-Definitely-
Not like pole dancing
Pole arms are like spears
And the royal arms are the weapons granted to me by my ancestors
Only those of my bloodline can use them
no subject
[!!!!]
Oh. Okay. I guess that's pretty cool, too.
Yeah. yes, can you show me? The teleporting?
no subject
But I'm not really sure it's the same thing
Sure
Whenever you want
I live in the village
So just tell me where to meet you
no subject
I live in the village, too. we could meet at the end of the road, where Grand Falls start.
no subject
I can show you that too
Sure
I can be there in twenty if now is good
no subject
Give me an hour? I have something I need to do first, but then. Yeah.
no subject
You got it
I'll be the guy with the weird lantern
@ action
He sets up a brisk pace, lantern clipped in to his belt and his notes in one hand, and he nearly blends in to the scenery with his black clothes and dark hair, but he's keeping his eyes open for people and when he reaches the end of the street, he stops under one of the dark streetlights. Why? Who knows, maybe it's habit, making itself know in weird ways, or the old sense of comfort or security from standing under the light, even if the light is gone now. But, he's standing there, leaned back against the post with one leg up to brace himself and he looks around carefully.]
