Indulge my curiosity for a moment, would you?
( could you deny a face like his? could you? you couldn't. which is good because he's going to ask a somewhat morbid question. )
We're all, apparently, dead. But some of us have died again and been returned via the church. Some of us have disappeared or died and not been returned. Are they still here somewhere? Or have they been sent back to where they came from?
Those are hypothetical questions, by the way. Feel free to try and answer but I think it's going to be a lot of time that could be spent on something more fruitful.
My actual question: could the the way of dying a second time crucial to who stays and who goes? Or did those of us that have been lost end somewhere in this place that we've yet to find?
( he knows that it's not necessarily a fun thing to think about but he recalls the resurrection of his aunt hilda after her many deaths at the hands of his other aunt versus how harvey's brother had come back. two dead people returned to the land of the living but only one went on to live a relatively normal life.
ambrose knows that might be because hilda is a witch herself and tommy was a normal human. but his curiosity still stands. )
Do we need to institute the buddy system to make sure no one else wanders off and doesn't come back?
( he's joking. mostly. )

( what matters is that grizz is comfortable. he's lived in big places and small places and as long as it makes you comfortable, that's what's important. )
I live in a small room. So, you're doing a little better than I am. We'll make it work.
no subject
[ the cabin isn't much yet, but he'll add things. maybe. probably. for now, there's a window through which he can see the forest and really, that's what matters.
there's also a couch for them to sit on. ]
no subject
( he's mostly kidding but he is curious. he doesn't much mind the woods either. the spellmans had lived pretty close to the forest for a long, long time, in fact.
since it looks like he's going to be invited in, ambrose slips past grizz and takes a seat on the couch, dumping his supplies on the cushion beside him. )
You have that look about you. The big, strapping look, I mean.
no subject
[ for the compliment??
grizz isn't blushing, but he ducks his head a little, hair falling into his face, hiding his eyes. big and strapping, but also very much eighteen and not terribly used on being complimented. ]
I just like the outdoors.
no subject
( but the cold meant nice jackets and furry scarves so maybe it wasn't so bad. also, people to help keep you warm when even your fashionable clothes didn't work. )
You spent a lot of your time outside, then?
no subject
[ well. before new ham, anyway.
although he'd still spent time in his parents' garden, harvesting what he could, keeping the vegetables alive. ]
no subject
( he gestures to himself and smiles. )
I don't know if I have the football player look. But you do. ( you look very nice, grizz. ) I was more of a homebody.
( because he'd had to be. )
Kept myself busy though.
no subject
[ that slips out a little too quickly. ambrose may not be as tall or as big as grizz, but he doesn't look
plump or anything
(grizz isn't really sure why he thinks a homebody would look like that.) ]
no subject
( oh grizz, ambrose is very thankful for your unintentional (and adorable) slip of the tongue. )
What do I look like, then?
no subject
grizz doesn't flush, but it's a close thing. ]
A trail runner.
no subject
( interesting. )
Would it surprise you if I told you that my actual job was mortician?
( please don't freak out, grizz. )
no subject
[ he's not freaking out. he is surprised, though — but mostly because that's nowhere on the list of jobs grizz ever thinks about. ]
Why that?
no subject
( and it was a great cover for what they actually were. )
But it let's me help people through a very difficult time as well. It's a sensitive time for a family and you want to make sure they're helped through it as gently as possible.
no subject
[ before new ham, he'd been fortunate enough not to be around death a lot. not to have known it intimately. ]
Is it hard?
no subject
( terrible things happen everyday and the only thing you can do is prepare for them and make it so those who lose someone don't have to deal with it all on their own. )
I don't like death, mind you, but it happens. And I do what I can to help when I can. They're doing all the hard work.
no subject
[ it's what grizz would have wanted. to find a job he likes. that fulfils him, in some way. ]
no subject
( so, he was kind of out of a job. )
Not sure what I'm going to do now.
no subject
no subject
( he blows out a breath and shrugs a shoulder. )
I honestly don't know. I might have to pick up some new hobbies but as far a job? I don't think that's going to happen.
no subject
[ but they need to stay busy. not staying busy, not having anything to do — it'll drive them mad. especially in this darkness. grizz is pretty sure of that. ]
no subject
( he doesn't think he can sit around and drink all the time. he doesn't want to do that either. his freedom from house arrest should be a good thing so he doesn't want to waste it. )
So, it's either a job or a hobby. ( he smiles a little slyly. ) Or a person to enjoy.
no subject
Did you pick up knitting, in the end?
no subject
( alas. )
Are you volunteering to learn with me?
( probably not but a guy can dream! )
no subject
Why not?
no subject
( really??? )
You want to learn to knit together?
