Because it's me and two of my friends
Only the three of us didn't die at the same time
And I'm just wondering how often this kind of thing happens

it's kind of complicated
me, nate and wash aren't from the same world originally but we were in the same world together for a few years
i died with wash but nate was in his original world when he died

there's no one i know from my world here, but it's a big world.

since this place is pulling people in from a few dozen dimensions, different points in time isn't really a stretch.

A friend of mine who's here died right after I did
And another who isn't died around the same time

And apparently we were both still alive

we were all dragged to this place called hadriel, a little like this
the thing that brought us there was just called the door, and wash and i died protecting it from these robot alien things that wanted to destroy it
i guess the rest of them managed to protect the door, because nate got to go home and died there

Likeliest explanation is alternate versions of the same world, or alternate timelines. Which means you'd (in theory) have some memories and experiences that were the same and some that different. Some experiences could divulge completely whereas other differences could be quite minor.

Actually, I've never asked if everything he remembers leading up to that is the same

Theoretically speaking, sure.

The other option is you've had your memories altered which seems less likely given that there are so many people here already from other worlds, universes and times. Think of it as: the alternate versions of your worlds exist in a subsection of the alternate worlds we all come from.

But it seems I very strongly resemble a man from another.

if you want the easy answer, he's from an alternate timeline where things took a different turn and you all lasted a little bit longer.

and yeah, alternate timelines really are the easy answer before you ask.
