what's the best way to ask someone out?

that isn't "just go up to them and ask". I've tried, it don't work.

If they (or anyone else) said no, it wasn't going to work out anyway. Don't get me wrong, things can change, but getting to that point takes work.

But the actual specifics of the asking? That kind of depends on who you're asking. Dating's not really a one-size-fits-all kind of thing, for obvious reasons.
