This is Wade. Doc Hicks and I wanted to put the word out that anyone who needs medical attention now or in the future can find one of us - I'm in Room 310 and Gene's camped out by the bonfire. We're in the process of establishing a clinic in the chapel vestry for the sick and injured. If you have any information on new medical developments from your time or have any medications from the future, please share them.

And lastly: if you go out into the woods, bring one of us along. That's what we're here for.

( that gets a laugh. )

All right, all right, that might be pushin' it. But ain't no harm in givin' the fella a hard time.

[evocation]

He's a big boy, he can handle it.

[And thus Wade's life got worse.]

What's the first lesson, anyway?

[preseance]

We talkin' medics or manners?

( there has been much discussion of teaching kyna valuable life skills, help a fella out. )

[evocation]

Uh... I meant the medic stuff, but now I wanna know what you'll say about manners.

[preseance]

( HE WAS TEASING, KYNA, GOSH. )

First lesson can happen any time you think you're feelin' up for it. I ain't about to wait for everybody to be ready, it'd shake out 'bout as well as herdin' cats in a hurricane.

As to manners, well. How's your curtsy? Hear that's real important for the ladies.

[evocation]

[She lets out a snort of a laugh.]

I've never curtsied in my life.

[preseance]

Well there you have it. You oughta practice that one. I'll even show you how, I hear tell my curtsy's impeccable.

[evocation]

If I actually see you curtsy, I'll totally practice.

[preseance]

Well, you just saunter on down to the clinic then, an' I'll show you. It's all in the ankle, really.

( funny thing about bein' in an active warzone s'long as he has, you tend to fill your dance card with other fellas, an' take turns playin' the lady's part. you bet your ass he curtsies. )

[evocation]

It's in the chapel, right?

[preseance]

Yes ma'am.

[evocation]

[So Kyna teleports over, appearing outside the doors of the church. She still doesn't quite trust herself not to misjudge unfamiliar distances and hit a wall. She pushes the door open and peeks inside, grinning when she sees Gene.]

Okay, I'm ready to be impressed.

[preseance]

( oh, well. that was faster'n'he was expecting, but he doesn't let the surprise show. he just raises his eyebrows when she comes on in through the door an' stands only a little stiffly, on account'a how long he's been sittin'.

give him a moment, kyna, he's gotta get the flourish down-pat in his mind, an' he's holdin' up a finger to forestall any further comment. an' then he just executes the maneuver flawlessly, hands spread as if holdin' some invisible dress, ankles neatly crossed. he's grinnin' back as he bobs back up. )

Well, it pass muster?

[evocation]

[Kyna bursts out laughing, genuinely surprised by how graceful that was.]

Okay, Cinderella, good job. Do they teach you that in the army?

[preseance]

( as pop culture references go, it's a bit before his time, so she just sort of gets a faintly quizzical look. )

Nah, that one was New York. Got up to a world'a mischief in the seedy Brooklyn underbelly.

( he Did Not. but. it's fun to tease her about, knowin' that they've got some of that in common. )

[evocation]

All those scary curtsying thugs?

[She gestures towards him vaguely.]

Do it again?

[preseance]

( and he does. a little slower this time, deliberately exaggerating his movements so she can follow along. he's been dancin' since he was fifteen if he was a day, and it's put an easy grace down into his bones. he makes these things look easy. )

Oh, I can't curtsy an' tell, Miss Kyna, it'd be proper rude of me.

( besides, it's all talk of quasi-legal speakeasies and reggie smooth-talkin' his way past more'n'his fair share'a bouncers. lordy. in hindsight, he's lucky he made it to twenty. )

You catchin' on?

[evocation]

[Kyna snickers again, sinking down into her own curtsy and trying to mimic his movements. There's a common idea that elves are inherently graceful, and if that's true, Kyna certainly didn't inherit that from her father—she's a little wobbly, and her movements don't have quite the same flourish.]

I don't know. What grade do I get for that one?

[preseance]

Oh, reckon you'd pass muster.

( he gestures a little at her posture, an' holds up a hand. )

Y'mind?

( if he. you know. helps a bit. )

[evocation]

[She grins again. He says she'd pass muster but apparently she's bad enough to actively need help. Tragic.]

Go for it.

[preseance]

( army standards aren't fussy southern gentleman standards where manners are concerned, kyna. gene steps into her space, though he maintains a respectful distance, and he changes the position of her hand slightly with a faint touch. )

Little more weight on the ball of your right foot, is all. That'll help the wobble.

[evocation]

[She shifts her weight as he suggests, and does look a million times more stable.]

Now all I need is a poofy dress, right?

[preseance]

Atta girl. You'll be a proper dame in no time.

( it's very obvious by his tone that he doesn't buy into that whole ideal, but. you know, it's part of the fun. )

[evocation]

[As if to prove him wrong, she sticks out her tongue as she straightens.]

That means I'd have to actually be proper.

[preseance]

Oh, well. Perish the thought.

( can't have that, now can we? he's shakin' his head with a smile when he leans against one of the pews. )

Now, if I may be so bold... how in th'hell did you get here so fast?
