[ audio ] @jgordon ; Supplies [ open ]

This is Jim Gordon.

I took the liberty of gathering a loose inventory of what we've got for supplies after the incident on the docks. With what was salvaged from the ferry that made it back to the General Store [ because he's positive not all of it did ] I'd say we have a little under a month of food to go around.

I know I haven't been here for very long, but I think it might be worth talking about rationing what we have left.

From what I've been able to gather, that ferry was our only line in or out to whatever mainland is sending in supplies. Without it, we don't know when, or how, we'll be getting replenished again.

The city I'm from— [ Jim's voice doesn't crack, there's an audible pause before he goes on. ] The city I'm from we've been separated from the mainland for months with very little to go around. I can tell you from experience this isn't going to be easy: but if we want to survive, we're going to have to help each other out.
originallutece: that's really original (talk; oh another sexist remark)

You can survive without food.

It's unpleasant, but it's possible, so long as you sleep and drink water. Still: food is a comfort here, and I think rationing it is a decent idea. Especially given the lighthouse keeper doesn't seem to know how next month's supplies will come in now.
originallutece: if the loser isn't around to know they've lost? (talk; what's the good of winning)

Where you're from you're also alive, aren't you?

[She absolutely is not trying to be careful in any sense of the word.]

We're dead here, Mr. Gordon. We need less than we once did.

You can reduce your calculations by one person. I'll leave the supply for everyone else until we know when or if more will be coming.
originallutece: even in the bath okay sometimes you get good ideas in the bath!! (talk; science at any cost)

Yes.

[Simply said.]

I spent my first month here living, if you wish to use that verb, solely water and sleep. A former colleague did the same with food and water, but no sleep.

I would not say that as fact if I wasn't certain, Mr. Gordon.

There are people working on growing plants and vegetables. They can help with the stock once it's grown up a bit.

[No, he's not being helpful. This is just a thing he knows.]

It's easier for me. I'm a vampire, I don't need normal food to satisfy my hunger.

I know how hard it can be to ration food; I've been there. [ space is not fun; news at eleven. ] But since we only have a month's worth of food, and we don't know if another ferry's going to make its way here next month, it's imperative that we start now.

If you need some help in organizing rations for people, Jim, I'm willing to offer a hand. I'm Clarke.

We're still working on it. It's a work in progress. Respect the progress.

Other plant life grows here without light. It should be possible to grow plants here.

Hi.

[The voice comes soft, and there's a pause after the greeting. She's still getting used to handling the flat machine, but since it's Gordon, she listens to the message, makes the effort to attempt to follow it as best she can, and respond.]

I don't need much. Does that help?

Even without the ferry crash, there's always a chance supplies won't arrive every month. We're rather at everyone else's whim unless we can make our own food.

[Isn't it charming? She hums faintly at the mention of Will, because he's smart, but also, he's a little bitch, so.]

I should think that a staple of any living environment.

What specifically are you referring to?

[ Sorry, new arrival. There aren't any training wheels with this one. ]

Eating?

[ There's the tiniest bit of amusement in her voice. She's not sorry about that. ]

A few people have volunteered to be donors. I'm still hungry all the time, but it helps take the edge off.

Well shit. That's going to a pain in the tail. I was already not looking forward to having to eat cooked meat all the time.

[Have a brand new, very-old-sounding man. Possibly the querulous kind of old. Or at least grumpy.]

Is there anything out here to hunt? I haven't smelled anything that seems prey-animal-like. Or... animal-like at all, actually. But there has to be somewhere, right?

[It's disturbing, how little animal-smell there is around here. It's unnatural.]
